DRIVING FUNCTIONAL INNOVATION
A Q&A WITH DAVID ROSE, VICE PRESIDENT, SAKURAI USA
Screen printing enabled the first printed circuits over 90 years ago. Why is the technology still relevant?
Electronics printing has always relied on the screen printing prcess, fundamentally because of ink deposit. The old-style PCB boards relied onan etch resist over a copper layer to create the circuit pattern, whereas flexible circuits on plastics saw screen printing actually print the circuit pattern. Put simply, all circuits require a uniform deposit of ink/paste in order to make the circuit work. The screen printing process allows this to happen across a variety of disciplines.
